PORTLAND United skipper Josh Williams and new vice-captain Connor Callow have become the first players to commit to the club for the 2024/25 season.

Williams played 41 times for the Blues last season, scoring three times, as the islanders narrowly missed out on the Wessex Premier play-offs.

Williams is set to continue to wear the captain’s armband next season.

In a club statement, Williams said: “I am delighted to have agreed terms to remain with the Blues and lead the lads out for another season as skipper.

“It is an exceptional club run by incredible people who are striving to push the club forward with great support at home and away games which is only growing bigger.

“The optimism around the club at the moment is something that excites me and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve (next) season and hopefully we can go that one step further than last year.

“I couldn’t be prouder to be wearing a Blues shirt next season and captain this brilliant club.

“I will do everything in my power to drive us forward to where we want to be and give the fans all of what they deserve.”

Callow, meanwhile, also scored three times from centre-back in his 40 appearances last season.

The ex-Dorchester man also proved his versatility by filling in at left-back on numerous occasions.

He added: "I am delighted to take on the vice-captaincy role for Portland United for the 2024/25 season.

"After such a great season, I'm honoured to be offered this opportunity at 19 years old and can't wait for the season to begin.

"Having been at the club for two seasons now, I can honestly say everything about the club from my teammates, management, committee, fans, sponsors and volunteers is first-class.

"I am looking forward to seeing everyone back at the Camp and Satherley, I seriously believe this group of lads can have an even better season this year."
