A West Dorset school is appealing for public help to secure funding for an outdoor community hub.

Charmouth Primary School is bidding for money from the Aviva Community Fund in order to open an outdoor hub - which officials say will benefit the entire community.

Motorists are currently facing slow traffic on the A35 between the Bridport bypass eastbound in Bridport between the B3162 West Road junction and Crown Roundabout.

The congestion is in the roadworks area.


The A35 in Chideock is partially blocked eastbound and there is slow traffic due to a broken down lorry at Duck Street. The lorry is currently being recovered


A man has lost part of his arm after a tree fell on him in west Dorset.

Emergency services rushed to Mapperton, near Bridport, shortly after 2.20pm after a man working in woodland sustained a 'severe injury'.

Firefighters were called to Studland after a camper van caught fire in Ferry Road this lunchtime.

The emergency services were alerted at 12.37pm and the Studland ferry suspended services while a crew from Westbourne and one from Poole dealt with the fire.

The Air ambulance and coastguard helicopter have been called to a man 'severely' injured by a falling tree in Mapperton, near Bridport.

Emergency services attended the scene shortly after 2.20pm after the tree fell on the man, causing an arm injury.

A two vehicle car crash has blocked a road in Weymouth.

The collision happened at 1.23pm this afternoon on Preston Road which is now partially blocked following the crash.

Officers conducting a murder probe in Dorchester have named the man whose body was found. 

Elliot Handley, 46, from Eastleigh, was found in a flat at Compass House on the Grove.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about his last movements to come forward.

Police say a boat has come off its trailer on the A35 at Charmouth roundabout. The road is passable but motorists are urged to take care.


A REPORT by Condor Ferries has cleared its crew of blame for an accident involving its new £50million ferry.

The Condor Liberation struck the side of the quay at St Peter Port, Guernsey, while attempting to dock on March 28.

Dorset Echo: Condor Ferries' new fast ferry Condor Liberation heads out from Poole Port and across the harbour for a trial programme.

Condor’s report said the ferry had landed heavily on a vertical steel piling.

A MOTHER of eight is backing our campaign for paediatric services at Dorset County Hospital to be safeguarded.

As revealed by the Echo last week, as part of the Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) Clinical Services Review, it is recommended that children who have serious illnesses or need long-term care would have to go to the east of the county.

There would also be just one special care baby unit - again, in the east of the county.

Traffic is now starting to build on the A354 Chesil Holiday Park Roundabout in Wyke Regis.

Both directions are becoming congested, but the traffic is moving. Motorists are warned of minor delays around the area


A ‘SICK’ opportunist thief stole a charity box from a Weymouth pub.

The box was taken from the Swan Inn pub on St Thomas Street earlier this month, with police now encouraging people to come forward to help catch the person responsible.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place at 10.45pm on Tuesday, May 12.

POLICE are continuing to investigate after two people were arrested in Weymouth yesterday after a separate murder.

As reported in the Echo, a man was found dead at a property in Boscombe on Tuesday morning.

He has been named by police as 22-year-old Phillip Nicholson from Poole.

The circumstances of his death are suspicious and a murder investigation, led by detectives from Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, is underway.
