TERRAS: Vassell's out to impress

PLYMOUTH Argyle loan star Isaac Vassell wants to use his time at the Terras to impress Pilgrims’ boss John Sheridan – and with three goals in as many games he is doing just that.

The 20-year-old is keen to help Weymouth finish as high as they can in the Calor Southern Premier Division this term, though he is also focused on his future at parent club Plymouth.

Vassell’s contract with the Home Park outfit is up at the end of the year and, having only appeared for the League Two side fleetingly so far, the striker wants to force his way into Sheridan’s plans for next season.

And he isn’t doing his chances any harm, with a match-winning goal against Burnham on Tuesday preceded by strikes in victories over the same opponents last Saturday and Bashley before that.

“My contract is up at the end of this year so hopefully I’ve sent a message back to Plymouth and I will be offered another deal there,” he said.

“I came to Weymouth with Jamie Richards to get a bit more experience and game time, which is better than sitting watching games.

“At the moment the goals are going in for me and I’m doing alright, I just need to keep playing well and helping the team.

“Personally, I prefer playing as a striker but I don’t mind playing on the wing on either the left or the right.”

Vassell, who has previously spent time on loan at Truro and Bideford, is aiming to follow in the footsteps of cousin Darius, the former Aston Villa, Manchester City and England centre forward.

However, he is eager to make a name for himself in his own right, adding: “I talk to him now and again and he wants the best for me.

“But I want to do it for myself and don’t want to be living in his shadow.”
