ST OSMUND’S beat last year’s champions Radipole to win the Weymouth RFC schools tag rugby competition.

Fifteen teams from 12 schools entered the annual tournament at Monmouth Avenue, with each one trying to tag their way to the finals at Twickenham.

An enjoyable afternoon of tag rugby saw some very closely matched sides, including newcomers IPACA, Beechcroft and Conifers, play to a high standard.

After the exciting pool stages, a same-school semi-final saw St Osmund's 1 defeat St Osmund’s 2 by four tries to three, while in the other semi Radipole overcame Southill 6-3.

Sadly for Radipole, they were unable to defend their title and St Osmund’s ran out 8-4 winners in the final.

Students from Weymouth College and volunteers from Weymouth RFC helped referee and marshal the event, and the club would like to thank Magna Housing for their continued sponsorship.

Weymouth RFC has continued its efforts in supporting schools in the community with tag rugby coaching.

Any schools interested in receiving help with coaching can contact Chris Davis on 07576129254 or Mike Murphy on 07871 633985.

Next year’s schools tag rugby competition will be held in March with a World Cup theme being planned.
