TERRAS: Matthews blasts wasteful show
JASON Matthews labelled Weymouth’s wasteful 1-0 home defeat to Banbury as “terrible” as his side spurned countless opportunities to find the net against the Puritans last night.
“I felt it was a terrible performance,” the player-manager told Echosport.
“We’ve not started well and let’s be fair, they weren’t the best of sides, we created chances but on the whole our performance was poor.
“We had seven or eight chances but, no disrespect to them, they were poor and that’s why we had the chances.
“There were one-on-ones and take nothing away from their goalkeeper, he was superb, but when we are missing from eight yards out you shouldn’t be giving the keeper a chance.”
Matthews also refused to believe that inexperience cost his side once again as they suffered their fourth loss in a row.
He added: “It doesn’t matter how old you are sometimes, you know where the target is.
“We came out and had a good spell after half-time, but the frustration built and four straight defeats says it all.”
* Weymouth Reserves also suffered a 1-0 defeat, as they lost at Portland United in a top-of-the-table Dorset Premier League clash.
* In the Toolstation Western Premier Division, Bridport claimed three points away from home against Radstock Town with a 3-0 victory.
