TERRAS: Tully test for Weymouth
TERRAS’ player-manager Jason Matthews welcomes back an old friend as former Weymouth defender Steve Tully brings Truro City to the Bob Lucas Stadium this afternoon (3pm).
The pair, who were team-mates for a number of years, will test their managerial credentials against each other for the second time in less than two weeks.
Both managers have taken over their respective clubs midway through this season and secured their positions in charge for next term.
Tully was given the go ahead to lead the Tigers into next year’s campaign after his side defeated Weymouth 2-1 at Treyew Road earlier this month.
On the clash, Matthews said: “Truro are Truro, they know us well and we know them well and we need to dig in and grind out a result to rectify our performance at home last week.
“Tulls and I have similar opinions about how the game should be played, and with similar sort of players, he’s trying to get players from the same sort of region and there is competition to attract targets.
“We are good friends from our time playing together, he’s desperate to do well at Truro and I’m desperate to do well at Weymouth. I’m trying to rebuild things here and I feel that we are making moves to do that.
“Truro have a much bigger budget than we do but I’m not having that as an excuse, we will stay positive and I want to be judged when it’s fully my team with my budget next season.”
Commenting on Saturday’s prolific display at Redditch United, he added: “Any 4-0 away win you are always delighted with.
“Everyone did their jobs and we won by adapting and mixing it up in the conditions, we did very well and frustrated Redditch.
“We looked solid and it was nice to get back to winning ways and do it in some style.”
