JASON Matthews has expressed his desire to “put things right” following the close of Weymouth’s topsy-turvy league campaign, which concluded with a goalless draw at Chesham United on Saturday.

The Terras finished in 12th spot in the final league standings, a position that Matthews believes needs to be improved on next term.

“We have had an indifferent season by Weymouth’s standards and we will be doing our best to put things right next year,” the Terras’ boss told Echosport.

On the game itself, he added: “It was a good performance, a typical away performance for us and I’m a little disappointed because we could have gone on and won it. What’s disappointing as well is that we can’t produce that form at home.

“I went back to a 4-3-3 and it suits the personnel I have got at the club at the moment, but obviously moving forward, I want to be able to mix it up throughout next season and hopefully the players I bring in will be able to do that.”

The contest’s main talking point was the sending off of Chesham striker Drew Roberts, whose flailing arm caught the face of George Rigg.

Commenting on the incident, Matthews claimed: “He’s turned around and swung and arm and obviously there is no place for that in football, you just can’t do that in this day in age.

“I don’t think that lad has actually meant it nastily but he’s caught George and left him with a nasty cut on the nose.”
