DORCHESTER & District ABC’s Fraser Low and Sol Gilday-Evans both tasted success at a sell-out show in Sturminster Newton.

Low, taking on Weymouth’s Leon Fowler, was put under pressure by his opponent early on and could only find the target sparingly.

The Dorchester fighter upped the pace in the second round but Fowler’s unorthodox style meant the bout became untidy.

However, with his concentration unwavering, Low refused to get caught on the inside, imposing his power on Fowler, who but for a solid chin may have been preparing his trip home.

Low started the third with a long right to the body, but Fowler had moments of success as he advanced with some cracking shots.

The finale to the contest had the fans standing and shouting as the fight turned into one of the most exciting of the night.

Low was delighted with his win but did say that his rival was able to shrug off a lot of his best shots.

Meanwhile, Gilday-Evans claimed another win as he took on the host club’s Shane Hayward.

Hayward made Gilday-Evans fall short of his usual standards but, yet again, the Dorchester youngster demonstrated that he possesses natural skills that are hard to beat.

His combination of speed and class saw him defend any attacks from his foe in the first and, when Hayward went for the body in the second, he replied with a steady flow of punches.

Some jolting combinations momentarily slowed Gilday-Evans in the third, however, Hayward dramatically wobbled from a straight left hand towards the end.

The bout was a thriller to watch, both boxers made each other work by giving their all with a memorable performance of outstanding quality.

The sheer enthusiasm of the crowds helped make the tournament a spectacular event.

Elsewhere, a broken ankle stopped Ollie-Luke Breen’s bout at Avalon.
