JASON Matthews is set to make some early moves in the transfer market and has guaranteed Terras’ fans new signings will be arriving at the club over the next week.

Weymouth only finished their league campaign against Chesham United four days ago, but with a number of loan players returning to their parent clubs, Matthews is determined to assemble a new squad and get fresh faces prepared for the start of next season.

Confirming he is close to agreeing deals with an unnamed full-back and centre-forward, Matthews told Echosport: “There is a lot in the pipeline and it could even be done in the next day or so.

“There are a couple we just need to agree terms with.

“I’m also looking for a centre-back, a central midfielder and a centre-forward and I’m hoping to get them in as soon as possible.

“Hopefully we can tie a fair bit up in the next week or so, I don’t want to use my entire budget yet just in case someone else becomes available. A lot of clubs are still playing games but we are making inroads into some targets that we have been looking at for quite a long time.

“I’d like a little more experience in the spine of the team because I felt we lacked a bit towards the end of last season, and obviously the full-back area is something I want to address.

“Hopefully we will have a full-back in by the end of the week.”

On the process of striving to attract his targets for next term, he added “It’s tough to get it all done because the players are all weighing up their options, we obviously have a reduced budget this year but we are working hard to get players that want to come to Weymouth for the right reasons.”

With the club also confirming home friendly fixtures against Plymouth Argyle and Gloucester City during pre-season, Matthews also insisted that other matches may be scheduled fairly soon.
