CRICKET: Baker aims to turn it up a notch

Dorset Echo: BACK IN THE FOLD: Will Everitt BACK IN THE FOLD: Will Everitt

SOMETHING has to give between Beaminster and Stalbridge Seconds when the sides face off against each other this weekend, both searching for an elusive first win of the campaign (1.30pm).

The Memorial Playing field outfit, who suffered a 77-run defeat to Cattistock on the opening day of the season, had a game off last weekend, but team manager Ross Baker is keen to take things up a notch.

“Obviously it was a bit disappointing to not have a game last week but we are all raring to go,” he told Echosport.

“It wasn’t a great performance from us last time and we were a bit under strength so we are looking for much more tomorrow.

Beaminster welcome back wicketkeeper batsman Chris Lamb to the fold and former skipper Will Everitt returns after his absence during the opening round of fixtures.

Baker believes the inclusions of Lamb and Everitt are huge.

He added: “We have the best side out that’s available to us with Chris back to keep wicket and probably open the batting, we were lacking a keeper in that first game. Will Everitt also comes back into the side.

“Bringing in Will and Chris will certainly strengthen the top of the order and we bat further down the order this week as well so hopefully things will go well.

“Will offers us a lot more in the seam department. The spinners didn’t really work that well in the first game and they were a little expensive so we have a few more options there.

Baker admitted he was un-sure about what his side were up against facing Stalbridge’s second team, but is prepared for a hard-fought encounter.

He added: “We used to play the first team a few years ago and we always had good battles against them, we don’t know what the second team are like but we’re hoping for a good game.”
