FOOTBALL: Old boys return to Portland Town
PORTLAND Town have wasted no time in preparing for the 2014/15 season by bringing two former players back to the club.
Andy Barber has swooped to sign former Town keeper Peter Cowne, three years after he last played for the island outfit.
Cowne appeared 87 times for the club during his first stint and he is hoping to be only the seventh player to reach the landmark of 100.
Should he manage to do that Cowne will then be allowed to play for Town for free, as is the club’s policy when players get to the milestone.
Barber said: “We used seven keepers for the first team last season and that’s just ridiculous. All seven that we did use were all quality players but in order to push on you need a settled side above all else.
“Now we’ve got Pete back we are hoping we can achieve just that.”
Meanwhile, Town have also snapped up another ex-player in the shape of Lewie Dolan from Dorset League Division Two side Portesham United.
Dolan played a huge part in helping the Possums finish last season in their highest league position for nearly 30 years.
He said: “I’ve enjoyed my time at Portesham but I’m ready for a new challenge at Portland.
“I’ve been here before and left for Portesham, a move I regretted shortly after, but now I’m back at a club where the emphasis is on enjoying your football, and that’s what I intend to do.”
