EXPERIENCED striker Tim Sills has revealed that he decided to sign for the Terras because the club matched his ambitions as he enters the twilight of his career.

The former Aldershot, Hereford, Torquay and Stevenage forward turns 35 in September, but he still has things he wants to achieve in the game while he can.

And his primary focus now is on helping the Terras meet their target of returning to the Conference South.

“I got to that point where I fancied a new challenge at a club where their ambition matched mine at this stage of my career,” Sills told Echosport.

“At this stage of my career I need to be somewhere that is ambitious and can keep my passion going as well.

“The club should be higher than it is and they had high hopes last season which didn’t materialise.

“Hopefully this year we’ve got the potential to be successful.

“If I can help get Weymouth up this year and back into the Conference South then we’ll see what happens for the year after.”

Sills finished last season with Gosport Borough and was out of contract when Terras’ boss Jason Matthews came calling.

Impressed by how Matthews sold Weymouth to him, Sills penned a 12-month deal at the Bob Lucas Stadium earlier this month.

And even though he feels he has nothing to prove to himself, Sills is keen to make a good impression on everyone at Weymouth.

“I didn’t have a contract at Gosport at the end of last season,” he added. “Jason showed an interest and made an effort to get in contact with me.

“He sold the club and himself to me, he told me what he was all about, and I’d heard good things from other people as well.”

Sills continued: “I haven’t got anything to prove to myself but when you go to a new club there are things you have to prove to people.

“You’ve got to show your team-mates that your previous record is there for a reason, and you’ve got to prove to the fans you are there for the right reasons and you’re passionate about playing or the club.

“That’s what I enjoy about going to a new club and I pride myself in making sure I give my all.”

Sills has won promotion with Torquay and Stevenage in the past, scoring for the Gulls in the Conference play-off final at Wembley when they returned to the Football League in 2009.
