CAME DOWN held their first major mixed competition of the year with a foursomes Stableford for the Norah Walne Trophy.

With the sun beating down and the course in excellent condition, the trophy was won by the pairing of Eileen McBride and Ian Brittain, with a score of 38 points.

The runners-up were Sue Stokey and Tony Brant, who also claimed 38 points but were edged out on countback.

The trophy was presented to the winners by the president of the club Charles Foster.

Came Down also staged an individual midweek Stableford with nearly 100 players entering the field.

Division One was won by Steve Blake with a score of 38 points, Brian Hansford was second with 36 and Steve Wells was third with 34.

Division Two was won by Mike Ashley with 37 points, narrowly beating David Shaw on countback to claim the victory.

David Constant sealed the spoils in Division Three by totalling 34 points.

Top honours in the prestigious Preston Whitcombe were also up for grabs at the club in another recent Stableford.

A scintillating round of 43 points saw Brant claim the Division One category, as well as the overall victory.

Second went to Jim Stewart with 40 and third place was claimed by Alan Wood with a total of 39.

In Division Two, Jonty Archibald stormed in with another score of 43 points.

John Church finished runner-up in the division with 41 and third place went to Peter Reid with 38.

Division Three was claimed by D Housell thanks to a score of 36 points.

He just edged out Les Gardiner on countback.
