PUDDLETOWN have won the Switched On Under-18 Cup for the first time, defeating 2013 champions Martinstown in the final match.

Adam Barrett, Puddletown's skipper was also named player of the competition for his unbeaten knocks of 58 and 27, combined with some shrewd captaincy.

The competition was held at Martinstown for the first time and the cricket on display was as hot as the weather.

There was some superb cricket on display with fine displays from Martinstown’s Ryan Chase, James Reynolds and Chris Ninham.

Cerne’s Pearce Mercer, Jamie Downton and Robbie Frampton while the champions cause was helped by Chris Clarke, Mikey Crabb, Oliver Thompson and Ben Hargreaves.

Competition co-organiser Lee House, said: “What a marvellous day of cricket, all three of the clubs competing have strong youth sections and that was on display.

“All of the boys competed hard, but played the game in the correct spirit. They should all be proud of their efforts.

“Puddletown were deserved winners after pulling themselves back from the brink of defeat against Cerne, then brushing aside Martinstown. I hope everyone who took part had a great day.”

The competition became a three-team round-robin after Dorchester could not raise a side.

House added: “This is my sixth and final year running this competition. I hope it’s firmly established and someone takes over.

“I’d like to thank Ross Moors from Switched On Electrical for sponsoring this competition, plus Rachel Bailey, Tom Blundell, Geoff Perks and Evening League president Gus Diment for their invaluable support.”
