THE late Kieron Clewett was remembered with fondness by family and friends at the Dorchester & District ABC’s annual general meeting and awards presentation.

Former club chairman Steve Scott started proceedings with a minute’s applause in honour of the teenager who passed away last August.

Scott then went on to read a few of the tributes that came flooding in for the youngster, with many happy memories recalled on the night.

Clewett loved his boxing and his unpredictable speed and approach gave him the deserved title of ‘King of the Ring’ during his time as a member of the club.

Kevin Hay, then head coach of the Bristol Boxing Academy, recognised Clewett’s potential with a view to pushing towards the England boxing squad, and possibly the Olympics.

Dorchester lead coach Ben Geyser always took delight in reminding him not to forget the club when he was famous.

Also present were Clewett’s parents, Miriam and Barry, as well as sister Amelia, all of whom said that they desperately missed their son and brother.

On the trophy front, John Manly, representing sponsors Moxom’s Joinery, paid tribute to the club’s boxers.

He said: “I can see that all the boxers have an appetite to succeed and shine in the ring.

“It’s a pity that the awards have been whittled down to those who have braved the championships and boxing ring, because everyone deserves to be applauded.

“You have to be a tough cookie to take up the demanding regime to become a boxer.”

Head coach Ben Gey-ser said: “Every member plays a part in the smooth running of the club.

“On behalf of the coaches, committee, sponsors and parents, we thank you all very much indeed.

“We all thank John Manly from Moxom’s for presenting the shield that he held for several years, which Kieron took over from 2011-2013. “We would all like to thank Barry and Miriam Clewett for the beautiful Kieron Clewett Memorial Trophy and all the help and sponsorship that they have provided.

“Kieron’s sister Amelia arranged all the refreshments and many thanks must also go to her.

“This is a big thank you to everyone who supports local talent and we hope we can repay you with more wins in the coming season.”
