TOM Gutteridge has been in hot form over the course of the summer, gathering an array of success in recent tournaments.

Gutteridge, who played in the Weymouth Town Tournament as a youngster and has been training in Philadelphia over the last few months, came close to claiming the Winchester Open and the Bournemouth Open in singles’ action this year.

In Winchester, he came through a tough quarter-final contest 7-6 7-6 against John Kanar, and after victory in semi-finals, he pitted his wits in a close encounter with Adam Drysdale, who plies his trade in Alabama.

In a tense finale in front of a sizable crowd, Gutteridge lost in three sets and spurned numerous opportunities to break Drysdale in the decider.

Moving on to the Bournemouth Open, the Weymouth man overcame a number of fellow Dorset players on his way to another final, including Oliver Brown and Piers Herfet-Jones.

He locked horns with Piers Farhang in the indoor final and after getting off to a sluggish start losing the first set 6-1, Gutteridge responded by winning the second set by the same scoreline.

And even though he went on to lose in four sets, the Weymouth man did pick up top honours at the event after he and partner Alex Gasson from Denver University overcame Alex White and Weymouth’s Kevin Willemse 6-0 6-0 in the men’s doubles final.

Gutteridge is now in train- ing for the British Tour and future events happening this month.
