IN a superb set of pre-season games organised by the RFU at Swanage & Wareham, Weymouth and Portland were able to play three games against teams in the area, as they took on Wimborne, Blandford and the hosts.

The club was able to try various player combinations before their season kicks off properly on September 13.

In the first game, Weymouth & Portland won 17-0 after a hard-fought clash, the tries were scored by Joe Gibson, Khylo Farley and Gareth Parkinson with Ryan Lewenden slotting home one conversion.

The second contest of the afternoon for the side saw them take on Blandford, which was won right at the end with a runaway try by scrum-half Ryan Keable-Kinsella, to give Weymouth & Portland a 5-0 vic- tory.

In the final encounter, Wey-mouth & Portland took on Swan-age & Wareham, in what proved to be their hardest test.

The hosts took the lead after being camped in the Weymouth & Portland half and, in the second period, the visitors pushed hard.

Tireless flanker Lewenden got his reward when he crossed over to touch down, but the conversion kick was just short leaving the final score 7-5 to the Swans.

Some notable performances on the day came from Andy Bowditch, Chris Hurrell and Sean Murphy in the front row and Ade Walker playing his first game at hooker.

Bryn and Khylo Farley both performed well at fly-half and Steve Nation-Grainger, playing his first game at full-back after being out injured for over a year was impressive.

Weymouth & Portland captain Kevin Leatham said: “What a great performance by every player and a big thank you to the RFU for arranging the festival, and Swanage & Wareham for hosting the event.”
