A SAILOR who is a member of both Castle Cove and Weymouth sailing clubs has been nominated by Yachts and Yachting Magazine for a race of the year award.

Sam Pascoe, along with sailing partner Glen Truswell, are up for the award for their performance at the Prince of Wales Week (POW) held at Castle Cove Sailing Club earlier in the year.

They were competing on their International 14 dinghy.

The duo won the POW Cup at the week-long event, clocking more than 47 miles on the GPS.

It was made even more challenging due to the weather conditions as there were very strong winds and big waves.

As well as winning the cup, they also won the POW Week.

It is for this performance that they have been nominated for the accolade.

Pascoe said: “We are delighted to have been nominated for this prestigious award and it is a great end to what has been an extremely good season for us.”

The dynamic sailing duo won the European Championships in Travemunde, Germany, took the asymmetric fleet at the Weymouth Regatta, and clinched the International 14 Gallon Trophy.

The Yachts and Yachting Magazine Awards are handed out every year and feature a number of categories.

Pascoe and Truswell were nominated in the category for Racing Performance of the Year.
