STRIKER Stewart Yetton is optimistic of overcoming a slight groin problem to take to the field for the Terras against Havant & Waterlooville, as the sides battle out an FA Trophy replay at Westleigh Park this evening (7.45pm).

Yetton revealed to Echosport that he played on in discomfort during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Bob Lucas Stadium, but is eager to see how he holds up in the warm up tonight.

“I was struggling early in the game because I tweaked the side of my glute and the pain went around into my groin,” he told Echosport.

“I managed to get through the game but it is something I am struggling with a bit at the minute. It’s nothing too serious, it’s just one of those things.

“I have taken it pretty easy and done plenty of stretching, and I am hoping at the minute I’ll be alright.

“I won’t do anything to let the team down, or do anything risky for the rest of the Christmas period, but hopefully I’ll be fit to play.

“I want to play and I will be doing everything I can to play, it’s just going to be a case of getting there, going through the warm up, and seeing how I go.”

Weymouth overcame Havant in a replay at Westleigh Park in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy back in 2011, winning 2-0 on that occasion.

A home tie with Dover Athletic awaits the Terras in the second round should they see off the Hawks this evening, and skipper Yetton is confident his side can grab a result against the Vanarama South outfit.

He added: “I do fancy us to get a result in most games.

“The onus will be on them, they are still going to be favourites and rightly so.

“A couple of their boys in central midfield are very good players.

“Although we want to win, in the grand scheme of what we want to achieve this season it kind of doesn’t matter if we don’t, therefore we can let the shackles off a bit and play with a bit more freedom.”

Terras’ boss Jason Matthews indicated that Chris Shephard (groin) is still struggling for fitness, but Tim Sills is set to return after shaking off a sickness bug.

Gareth Will is also set to come into the squad in place of Luke Winsper, whose ongoing foot injury is set to keep him out.

Reacting to the second round draw and a potential tie against the Whites, Matthews told Echosport: “If we do get through – and it is a massive if – they are a Conference team who have done superbly in the FA Cup and are still in it.

“But I am under no illusions that it is going to be really tough to beat Havant on their own ground tonight.”
