THE Will Mackaness Trust, a registered charity which funds young people’s participation in watersports, has had a very good year for donations.

Pam Govier, Will’s mother and trustee, said: “Donations to the trust have continued to be at a high level.

“I am very grateful to everyone who has made it possible for more young people to benefit from a wider range of watersport activities.”

Earlier in the year, a Sport England grant of £10,000 paid for RS:One windsurfing race kits which have been used during Race Club events at the Official Test Centre.

Activities included youngsters, hoping to follow in the footsteps of Weymouth’s Nick Dempsey, pictured, windsurfing along the coast to raise money and a small group of pupils at Wey Valley School taking part in the ‘Make £5 Grow’ scheme before donating their profits to the trust.

The fundraising will conclude with money raised from the annual Chase the Pudding Race on Weymouth Beach – the trust is the chosen charity this year.

The race will be taking place on Sunday, December 21 and competitors will gather at Weymouth Pavilion when registration opens at 9.30am.

Entry is £15 for adults and £5 for under-14s.

Fancy dress is compulsory and adds to the spectacle as all the Santas chase the pudding along the beach.

The race will begin at 11am and for further details visit willmackanesstrust.org.uk
