DORCHESTER head coach Martyn Peel remains upbeat going into his side’s match at Walcot tomorrow (2.30pm) despite a lack of consistency this season.

Peel’s county town outfit have struggled to string a run of positive results together since the campaign began back in September.

That has left them eighth in the Southern Counties South table, a full 11 points behind the next best team, North Dorset.

But Peel is buoyed by the enthusiasm around the club at present and is in a confident mood going to fifth-placed Walcot, 20-5 winners at Coburg Road earlier this term.

“Training numbers have been consistently high with upwards of 30 in attendance,” he said.

“And with over 60 players making themselves available for selection each week it has allowed the club to field three sides comfortably, which is a major achievement as the club has entered three sides in the league for four years.”

While the involvement of three competitive sides is a major positive, injuries have been a problem.

Peel went on to add: “It was a massive shame to lose James Baker, Dan Cree, Toby Waddington and Jake Chislett for the remainder of the season through injury, but the return of Steve Hodgson and Lee Harvey has been very welcome, and the return of Carl Mitchell in January is eagerly anticipated.”

It is no secret that everyone at Dorchester is immensely proud of the club’s junior section and the involvement of so many former juniors in the senior sides impresses Peel.

He continued: “All those that have pulled on the shirt this season have done so with pride, but it is particularly pleasing to see the development and involvement of Sam Jones, Callum King and Ed Grassby, all products of the youth section.

“All this has led to a fantastic spirit among the squad, even when results haven’t always gone our way.”

Meanwhile, league leaders Swanage & Wareham were thankful to Frome last weekend after the Somerset team defeated second-placed Sherborne.

That result, along with the Swans’ romp at Bradford-on-Avon, saw the former stretch their lead in the table to 11 points.

Frome visit Bestwall tomorrow (2.30pm) on the back of three straight successes.
