ADAM SUMMERS reminisces with former England, Tottenham Hotspur and Weymouth star GRAHAM ROBERTS, ahead of the Return of the Legends evening
This weekend saw the start of the International Federation of Disabled Sailing Event at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and I was excited to be volunteering for it. I arrived on Saturday morning not really knowing what to expect as my usual job of safety cover on the water wasn’t needed as the organisers of the event provide their own safety boats. However, it turned out that I had a fantastic, varied weekend learning new skills and meeting new people.
Now that the clocks have gone forward and the lighter evenings are with us, my week has changed a bit as I am now able to sail in the early evenings instead of, and sometimes as well as, the weekend.
Saturday's Sailing was slightly different as we were doing a sponsored sail in aid of Red Nose Day 2011.
So here it is, the SailLaser End of Season Party! And whilst the rest of the country is gripped by the freezing temperatures, Portland is bright, calm and still. Even parts of Weymouth had snow yesterday evening whilst we had rain!
It was with mixed emotions that I went to the academy – pleased to be going but sad that it was the last week of OnBoard Club and Race Club for this season.
It was a beautifully sunny day, slightly lacking in any wind but bright and dry. I packed my kit and lunch and then went to get dressed.
Hi, my name is Adam and I am 13 years old. I go to school on Portland and my main hobby is Sailing. I sail at least twice a week at SailLaser which is based at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.
