A BAKED goods company has been cooking up business for a national wildlife charity.

The Wool-based Dorset Flapjack Company has been supplying the newly-relaunched Purple Saltire Association with customised selection boxes of its vegan range to raise money for the protection of animals throughout the UK.

The animal welfare organisation is based in Scotland but campaigns tirelessly to save unwanted pets, protect wildlife and stamp out animal abuse from Cornwall to the Highlands.

The family-run Dorset Flapjack Company, which is part of Williams the Baker, has become the organisation’s latest retail supplier and the group now hope to sell a steady flow of boxes through its virtual retail outlet, the Polecat Pantry.

The flapjack company currently produce eight different varieties, suitable for vegans, vegetarians, and coeliacs which are all homemade in the county.

President of the charitable organisation, and former Martinstown resident, Sue Campbell is delighted with the business.

She said: “The Dorset Flapjack Company is a wonderful family run firm.

“To give each flapjack its unique flavour dried fruits or glacé cherries are added before baking. The result is a healthy snack or dessert, full of fibre. They are filling and so tasty as well.”

The charity runs seven different projects throughout the UK including protecting badgers and bunnies in their natural habitats, rehabilitating hedgehogs back into the wild, saving seals, and rehoming ferrets.

Sue added: “The profits from all our sales are ploughed directly into our six projects or used to care for the three seals which we have adopted.

“Our projects all have the objective of buying veterinary supplies and food for injured and rescued rabbits, badgers, hedgehogs and foxes as well as seals, ferrets, rats and cats-an eclectic but delightful mix.”

Following on from the Purple Saltire Association’s recruitment drive this autumn, the organisation is now seeking new members to join its team.

An annual subscription of £24 will enable the association to purchase veterinary supplies and food for all the creatures supported by its projects.
