A NEW drop-in business event providing a range of specialist workshops will be coming to Weymouth.

The announcement was made at the Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce breakfast this month, held at the Nothe Tavern.

The new concept of a Chamber Dorset Business Day to be held on Wednesday, June 28, at Weymouth College was revealed by new president of the chamber, Andrew Knowles.

He said: “This drop-in, all-day, free event at the college will provide advice and information on a selection of everyday business topics plus a range of specialist workshops for all those in business to visit. Further information can be found on the chamber website under upcoming events.”

The April breakfast also saw a talk from business manager of Albert Goodman, Richard Bulger, who gave some interesting facts and information on what he described as a “not very exciting budget, that seemed a long way in the past already”.

His top tips for business were to make use of the lower corporation tax at 19 per cent; share your business profits between husbands, wives and partners; professional landlords should make use of being a limited company; use capital allowances fully and research and development facilities and make full use of company pension contributions for surplus money.

Richard added: “Despite some uncertainties that lie ahead, there were many positives out there and the Dorset economy was doing well on the whole; engineering, food production, hospitality and tourism in particular.”

President Andrew Knowles thanked Richard for managing to engage his audience on what is never an easy subject.

Proprietor of the Nothe Tavern, Emma Cogswell is a new member of the chamber and was delighted to host the breakfast at her newly refurbished venue.

She said: “We are always pleased to see so many new faces from the local business community and it was a terrific opportunity for us to show off our lovely pub.”

Andrew added: “It was good to see a strong turn-out of members with a high number of guests, many of whom had not visited this newly re-furbished Weymouth Pub and were delighted to find what a great atmosphere it now has.”
