A Bridport business has pledged to support the town's youth and community centre.

Bridport’s Youth and Community Centre fundraising committee is delighted with the generous response from the town’s people and businesses.

Kennedys Estate agents is offering to sponsor £50 from each house taken on the market during May, June and July that goes through to completion.

The pledged comes from a commitment to helping young people shown over the years by Tina Cornish who is the senior sales negotiator and administrator Lesley Lee.

Tina was awarded the MBE for her commitment to supporting young people in Bridport and as the Youth Club Leader in Loders for many years.

Lesley equally gives a great deal of time to youth work, as secretary of the Loders Young Players which is a charity promoting arts and sport.

Tina explained why they chose to make the donation to the youth centre.

She said: “Community matters, so we want to support our local centre’s activities, which we do both as volunteers and as a longstanding local business in South Street “

Ros Kayes, the chairman of the Youth Centre Trust added: “ I’d like to thank Kennedy’s for this extremely generous offer which shows their commitment to our activities and Bridport’s young people,.

"The youth centre is at the centre of our community and the support of all the local businesses has been phenomenal and so much appreciated.”

Margie Savory, a newcomer to the board added: “Kennedys have a great record of selling property locally and so we are hoping this will raise a lot of money and people involved in buying and selling their property will know that they are contributing to the towns’ young people.”

The committee can also celebrate that its raffle which is being drawn on May 31 has already raised more than £1000.

Prizes include a photo of Broadchurch signed by Olivia Colman and David Tennant, Among the many other prizes there is a family ticket to a show at the Bridport Arts Centre, a cream tea at the Bull, a meal at the Olive Tree and a rug from Carpet World. Local businesses have shown their support for the youth centre by offering a host of generous prizes, added Margie.
