The West Dorset MP will be giving a talk on the prospects for the UK economy.

Accountants, business leaders and representatives of local government from Dorchester and surrounding areas will be gathering to hear Oliver Letwin at an upcoming business lunch.

The occasion is the annual lunch of ICAEW Southern and its Dorchester Town Group.

Ian Carrington, who chairs the Dorchester Town Group, said: "This year’s lunch promises to be a highly insightful occasion, especially as we shall be retaining the Q and A format, which has proved popular in past years.

"This will enable attendees to pose challenging questions to a highly experienced politician who has local interests at heart, at a time when businesses will soon be facing new challenges.”

Mr Letwin, who has spent 20 years in parliament, and was one of the key architects of David Cameron’s austerity programme, will be returning to this event to talk about the government’s views on the economic situation and the progress towards Brexit.

The Dorchester Town Group traces its history back over many decades to the formation of the Southern Society of Chartered Accountants (recently rebranded as ICAEW Southern), and is a focus for business support in its area. It runs fortnightly CPD lectures for qualified accountants at Althelhampton House near Dorchester and is involved with the Dorchester Business Improvement District and the ICAEW’s Business Advice Service.

The annual lunch, which attracts an attendance of up to 80, will be held at Kingston Maurward College near Dorchester, and is open to ICAEW members and non-members including clients and other business associates.

It will be held on Friday, September 22.
