The Lugger Inn in Chickerell put on the market for £795,000

Occupying a prominent spot on the western edge of Weymouth, just behind Chesil Beach, The Lugger Inn makes an ideal base to explore Weymouth, the Isle of Purbeck and the Bennetts Water Gardens.

The 200-year-old inn is on the market with Colliers International for offers of around £795,000 for the freehold.

Ed Jefferson from Colliers International’s hotels team said: “With 14 quality letting rooms, a function room, a beer garden and a one-bedroom owner’s flat, The Lugger Inn is the right sized business in the right place – in the heart of the Jurassic Coast.

“Originally a small fishing village along the coast from Weymouth, Chickerell is a fast-growing commuter village with a new generation of residents who work in Weymouth or Dorchester.

“These towns are working closely together to create a stronger underlying economic base on the South Coast – rather than simply depending on tourism and agriculture. This helps provide a welcome additional revenue on top of the inn’s visitor trade.”

He added that The Lugger Inn had achieved net sales in excess of £500,000 per annum, and that the bar, restaurant and the cottage room cater for nearly 100 covers.

In addition, The Lugger Inn has one of the few skittle alleys left in Weymouth and boasts three to four matches a week in the winter which generates additional income.

“With a good mix of tourism and commercial guests plus strong local trade, The Lugger Inn is very much a part of Chickerell – which boasts a football club, horse riding stables, golf, a youth club plus walking and running clubs,” he said.

The vendors are Ralph and Liz Nubeebuckus, who have enjoyed a long career in hospitality which also included owning The Riviera in Weymouth, which was sold on their behalf by Colliers International.
