A Dorchester shop is hoping that the response to this year’s Echo Christmas Toy Appeal will be even better than before.

Wellchester, in South Street, has seen generous donations from customers who give to the appeal year after year.

Team member Tina Samways said: “Last year we had several big sacks full of presents for the children.

“This year we hope the response will be just as good or even better. Over the years we have always had a good response and by Christmas we have collected lots of toys.”

Tina said donors shouldn’t fret over what to donate to the Christmas Toy Appeal as every little helped.

She added: “You can donate a gift, no matter how big or small.

“Toys, games, puzzles, books - all are so appreciated.

“We have some customers who come in to the store, buy something and put it straight into the toy bin.

“That kind of generosity is so nice to see.”

Toy collection bins are available in a number of locations across Dorset for presents that will brighten up Christmas for hundreds of needy children across the county.

The Dorset Echo on the Granby Industrial Estate and the Dorchester office in Antelope Walk are also accepting donations.

Last year the Weymouth newsroom was full of sacks of presents before social workers and carers delivered them to children and we hope that this year’s response will be even better.

The Echo is also looking for businesses to donate £100 towards the appeal.

Last year over 30 businesses donated generously to ensure every child that signed up received a Christmas gift.

Tina said: “This appeal helps children who otherwise probably wouldn’t have anything to look forward to at Christmas.”

Please only donate new, unwrapped gifts and please no cuddly toys.
