IN the year “Twenty Ten”, one car manufacturer really is making its marque by introducing 30 new cars or engines to its acclaimed range.
While it may be sheer coincidence that Mercedes-Benz’s new model tally and this annum are numerically linked, everything adds up to it being a vintage year for the prestige brand and its customers.
Since the new decade commenced, local retailer Mercedes-Benz of Poole has already taken the wraps off the latest-generation E-Class Estate and is now busily preparing for not only the new “10” registration but its next arrival.
The eagerly-anticipated E-Class Cabriolet will be revealed for the first time at a special preview weekend being hosted by the Holes Bay Road retailer on March 6 and 7.
The new pairing will complete the all-new E-Class family following the launches of the E-Class Saloon and Coupé versions in 2009 and together make an irresistible foursome for the executive sector.
It’s certainly easy to get carried away in more ways than one by the new E-Class Estate, which offers space and style in equal measure as well as enhanced driving dynamics over its highly successful predecessor.
Owners are assured of enjoying plenty of car for their money as this premium estate is the biggest vehicle in its segment and offers a class-leading load capacity of 1,950 litres as well as a wealth of practical features.
Rear air suspension with self-levelling, the Easy-Pack automatic tailgate and Quickfold rear seats, which can be adjusted to accommodate varying loads and still optimise passenger comfort, are all available as standard.
The Easy-Pack folding load floor that increases the usable height of the boot area is another helpful aid that comes at no extra cost.
There are three diesel and four petrol engines to choose from – the majority benefiting from BlueEFFICIENCY measures to boost fuel economy, reduce emissions and slash company car tax by as much as 33 per cent.
The E 220 CDI returns 49.8mpg (combined) and CO2 emissions of just 150g/km – an improvement of 9.8mpg and 38g/km of CO2 over the previous generation.
Those preferring panache to practicality should probably look no further than the Estate’s Cabriolet cousin.
Unprecedented levels of refinement, comfort, luxury and impressive technology ensure that this is a soft-top that doesn’t just have to be savoured when the sun shines.
Innovations such as the world-first AIRCAP® draught stop, which reduces wind turbulence within the vehicle when the roof is down, and the Airscarf neck-level heating system mean the joys of open air motoring really are available all-year round.
The E-Class Cabriolet will be showcased by Mercedes-Benz of Poole ahead of its official UK debut at the retailer’s Finer Things Weekend on March 6 and 7 – an event that is destined to leave guests shaken and stirred yet utterly relaxed at the same time!
Among the attractions being laid on for visitors over the two days are entertaining cocktail demonstrations by staff at the Captain’s Club Hotel and soothing mini spa treatments.
Test drives will be available throughout the weekend and one lucky person could even find themselves travelling much further afield if they enter the national Mercedes-Benz draw as the prize is a luxury holiday in Mauritius.
From the A-Class hatchback to flagship S-Class, Mercedes-Benz of Poole really can offer a model to suit every requirement and budget – especially with the huge choice of affordable finance packages available across the range at the present time.
The retailer is also the region’s official sales outlet for the iconic smart brand, which continues to go from strength-to-strength.
The smart fortwo range has increased its appeal following a host of enhancements.
For example, the impressive specification of passion models now includes a Pioneer navigation and entertainment system offering full sat-nav capability, Bluetooth® connectivity, iPod®/USB connectivity, CD and radio operation via a 4.3-inch detachable touch screen.
Meanwhile, the renowned smart fortwo cdi has enhanced its position as the CO2 champion among production cars with a combustion engine by offering improved performance.
Adding to its vital statistics of 85.6mpg (combined) and 86g/km of CO2 are 21 per cent more power, an extra 18 per cent torque and a 0-62mph acceleration time that is three seconds quicker than previously.
