LUCY Bailey of the Abbotsbury Playground Group informs me that they have received a wonderful new year’s present
They have secured a fantastic £4000 of Lottery funding from Awards for All.
This will be used to fence off the Playground Area on the resurrected recreation field and to create a path from the main track.
The grass will be cut so that the children will be able to play safely on the area until the time comes for the playground to be installed.
This new facility will be great fun and the equipment they hope to provide will include a basket swing, a zip line and much more, which will enable people of all ages to enjoy the area!
A large piece of stone has kindly been donated from Portland Quarry and should be in place as soon as delivery is given the go ahead.
This will be the entrance stone and your welcome to the Abbotsbury Playground!
Local stonemason Bec Friesleben will carve it too.
The group recently raised £100 on Saturday, December 5, supplying refreshments for our local Dance teacher Kathy Davies.
The Kathy Davies School of Dance production was well attended with 350 guests. The evening was a real success and the dancers were fantastic!
Many thanks are given to Kathy for the opportunity to raise more money for the playground!
The playground group’s application for further funding will go in this month and they should know whether they have been successful within 8 weeks of its receipt..
If the outcome is favourable the playground will be up and running by June 2010!
Our fingers are crossed, it is a facility sorely needed in our village.
