Abbotsbury

CANDLES flickered and eyes shone during the Christingle service at St Nicholas Church on Sunday, January 24

The Chesil Scouts and cubs and beavers who attended this occasion processed their banners at the beginning of the service one that was held in aid of The Children’s Society.

The Christingle service originated in the Moravian Church in 1747 and the tradition is held in Abbotsbury each year.

The Scout group were very involved in the service and read the lessons and prayers.

The Christingle, an orange symbolically decorated and holding a candle was given to each child who had carefully listened to the safety instructions before carefully carrying it back to their seat.

There was also a retiring collection for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

At the recent parish council meeting held on Monday, January 4, I see that it is reported some people are having trouble with their Digital TV reception.

I’m glad to say that we in this house in West Street are having no problems at all.

However those that are experiencing difficulties are asked to contact DorBag the group set up for just such eventualities via the parish clerk at chesilbank@dorsetparishes.gov.uk
