'Souper' Lent lunch benefits two good causes

Abbotsbury and Langton Herring

Abbotsbury

THE joint benefice held the first of a series of occasions for Lent on Monday, March 22

The joint benefice comprises the parishes of St Nicholas, Abbotsbury; St Peter, Langton Herring and St Peter, Portesham.

By tradition each parish holds a lent lunch and a supper with a speaker with the proceeds going to chosen charities.

The lent lunch is generally held in the home of a parishioner and the supper in the various village halls.

This year Abbotsbury’s lunch – homemade soup with rolls and cheese plus the added bonus of good company - was held in ‘Church View’ and was well attended.

Thanks go to Tricia and Torben Houlberg for the use of their home and the delicious leek and potato and Mediterranean vegetable soup.

Over £80 was raised in donations.

This year the charities, which will benefit from these occasions are the Grace Secondary School in Sudan and our local primary school’s fees for the ‘Spring into Life’.

This is a Christian play which will soon be circulating schools in the Weymouth Deanery.

Richard Budd who has been running the appeal raising funds to build the Grace Secondary School will be the speaker at Abbotsbury’s Lent supper on Wednesday, March 17 in Strangways Hall.

Other lent lunches will be held in Langton Herring on Thursday, March 11 and Portesham on Tuesday March 23 and a Lent supper in Portesham on Wednesday, March 3rd.

THE Chesil and Fleet Nature Reserve is holding its next event on Saturday, March 13.

You are invited to help clean the Fleet foreshore from 10am to noon.
