HOW do you give an octopus antibiotics?

This was a question posed by Martin Fielding who regaled members of Broadmayne and West Knighton WI with tales of a vet's life.

Fur and feather featured in his hilarious telling of events within his practice, his clients ranging from burnt elephants to budgies which are very difficult to anaesthetise.

Their owners not escaping his observant eye, and a few embarrassing moments were related, featuring rings and tights among other things.

The laughter of his audience was proof of his very entertaining talk, and Jo Holdsworth thanked him, on behalf of the Institute.

The President, Wendy Stent, welcomed five guests, as well as many members returning after the August break and thanked Ruth Small who had kindly hosted the garden party in August.

One of the few really sunny afternoons was caught, and a delightful tea party was enjoyed photographs of which were available for members.

The new hall curtains were duly admired, and the Village Hall Committee thanked for organising this refurbishing.

Final details of the outing to the Donkey Sanctuary were explained, and Marilyn Holehouse told members about the Group meeting, and the Carol Service, which will be held in St Martins Church Broadmayne on December 4.

Marjorie Turner reminded members, who are helping to provide cream teas, of the arrangements.

Christine Walker won the flower of the month, and to end the evening, Deanna Robinson had everyone involved in an imaginative game, when members became night owls in the finale!

The next meeting will be on Thursday, October 9, when Mrs Patricia Godwin will entertain, with costumes, giving a glimpse of Anything Goes' in the Roaring Twenties.
