BROADMAYNE came fourth in the Best Kept Village Competition and the parish council would like to thank parishioners for picking up litter and making the village so attractive with plants and hanging baskets.

Cllr Kelvin Jury attended the prize giving and received a cheque for £50 together with a plaque which will be hung in the village hall.

Ideas are needed as to what to do with the prize money, so please tell any councillor or the clerk.

West Dorset District Council has approved the erection of a garage at 4 Chalky Road and refused the erection of a detached dwelling and external landscaping of land to the rear of 1 Martel Close.

Under consultation is the redesign of an approved scheme to erect a dwelling and modify existing access at 19 Martel Close but the council has objected on the grounds that without a garage, parking problems will be exacerbated.

A time extension has been obtained from the district council to allow the following to be on the agenda of the November meeting: (a) Ten Acres: Certificate of Lawfulness of existing use as residential accommodation in breach of condition 3 of planning permission 1/E/90/338F.

(b) Proposed entrance porch and first floor extension at 20 Martel Close.

(c) Erect garage extension, porch extension and external alterations at 5 Rectory Road.

The autumn bulletin was ready by the beginning of October and should now have been received, but if you have not received your copy please contact the clerk.

“Broadmayne Looks Forward” is now a regular agenda item.

Persimmon’s contractors had spent three days undertaking clearance work at the Old Brickworks Nature Reserve.

Some of the residents of Old Brickfields and Spring Gardens would now be interested in forming an association to take over the space.

The clerk was asked to write to Persimmon to inform them about the group and ask about finance and how to take the matter forward.

Work is continuing on the Village Walks Leaflets. The clerk was authorised to write to the school/school governors to ask about the actions in the plan relating to the school.

The Rector attended the meeting to discuss with the council and the parishioners present the proposal that part of the new burial ground should be used for green burials and answered questions.

The clerk was asked to report the light in Knighton Lane near the seat which comes on during the day.

However, neither she nor the responsible county council officer have been able to identify it as whenever they pass during the day, all the lights are off.

If you spot it, please look on the pole for its number and notify the clerk.

The clerk had attended a seminar on allotments called “Dig It” and councillors had received a copy of the proceedings.

Arising from this the clerk had prepared two reports, one based on “Dig It” and the other giving a summary of the allotments finance in past years, as a result of which, the clerk was asked to obtain a price for the cost to rotavate a plot.

The council will then consider whether to ask new tenants for a deposit which will be retained if the plot is vacated in a poor condition and it would not apply to existing tenants.

The clerk was also asked to draft a risk assessment form.

Rents will be part of the budget and will be debated at the next meeting.

Another idea which might be considered is the further division of a plot as there are four on the waiting list at present but only those from Broadmayne can be considered.

This has been disappointing for those who live on the West Knighton side of Oakwood.

Progress is being made with the siting of a speed indicator device on the Conygar end of the village.

The chairman reported that approximately 50 parishioners had attended a very successful meeting in October on Discovering Our Past.

The chairman reported that the Friends of the Surgery had now been formed but will be known as Broadmayne Surgery – Patients Support Group.

There were three consultations at this meeting.

The council will not be responding to the Department of Communities & Local Government: Consultation on the Making and Enforcement of Byelaws! It will, however, be putting forward views on the Dorset Road and Transport Survey and the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Management Plan.

At this meeting, seven members of the public were present during the democratic period.

Members of the parish are always welcome to attend and speak at council meetings by arrangement with the chairman.

The next meeting of the parish council is on Monday, November 3 at 7.30 pm in the hall at the back of the Methodist Church. Agendas will be posted on the four village notice boards and the website a week before the meeting and minutes are also put on the website and the main notice board in Main Street.
