  • WAISTLINES and skirts moving up and down over the years of fashion, were elegantly demonstrated in Patricia Godwin’s treasure trove of beautiful clothes.

She had acquired this collection, a story in itself, for some time before a friend asked her if she would show and talk about them in public.

Members of Broadmayne and West Knighton WI were very glad that she did, and appreciated her amusing comments as each garment was shown, illustrating the history of England from Victoria to Elizabeth II.

A variety of magazines, discovered with the clothes, showed, especially in the included advertisements, the popularity of substances with the most amazing ability to cure every ailment, and other unlikely phenomenon.

On behalf of the members, Deanna Robinson thanked Mrs Godwin for her entertaining commentary and the showing of the remarkable clothes.

One member is away at Denman College, enjoying a ‘Wine Tasting’ course, using a bursary that the institute gives.

She will tell members of her experience at the next meeting at 7pm on Thursday, November 13, when Mr Brian Bates will be the speaking on ‘A Walk in 17th Century Dorchester.’
