BROADMAYNE Parish Council, in consultation with residents of the village, produced a comprehensive strategy document “Broadmayne Looks Forward”.

Included in that document was a proposal to introduce a friends’ of the practice scheme in support of Broadmayne Surgery.

The outcome of the meeting was the formation of a Broadmayne Surgery Patient Support Group which listed a range of services to include transport, delivery of prescriptions, befriending and social interaction, walking, including dog walking and local shopping.

The scheme was launched in October 2008 and recently celebrated the provision of a prescription to its 100th customer by Stan Harland, the Group Co-ordinator.

Stan praised the dedication and commitment of the sixteen volunteers who have responded to the needs of the people in the community with such great enthusiasm.

“We live in a very special community where people respond so well and with such enthusiasm to the needs of their neighbours in time of need.

Whilst the group does support its volunteers with a small contribution towards transport costs, the gratitude of the patient, which is always expressed in such warm terms, is all the appreciation we need to make our efforts worthwhile”.

He went on to say that the top three services provided have been transport to the doctor, delivery of prescriptions and visits to the practice nurse.

In addition to services to people living in Broadmayne, this service extends to adjoining communities including Owermoigne and West Knighton.

The Group would welcome support from residents in Owermoigne as this would considerably reduce costs, so if you live in Owermoigne and feel you can offer assistance, please contact Stan through the Broadmayne Surgery on 01305 852231.
