LEARNING about life in the past can often seem a very dry subject from books, but pupils at Greenford School have been learning from first hand experience about living life as a pirate and cowboys and Indians in the American Wild West.

Dressed as pirates, red Indians and cowboys, the pupils have also been taking part in their traditional Christmas musical this year based on the story of Noah’s Ark and entitled SPLASH.

The story was filled with characters from many historical eras. As well as cowboys, red Indians and pirates the cast were a joined by dancers from the 60’s rock and roll era and sailors from on board ship.

Next term the children will be starting on a new historical study – life during the Second World War.

This is in preparation for the Maiden Newton in the 40’s weekend (Maiden Newton at War), when the village will be welcoming re-enactors from all around our country who will be turning the school and village into a WW2 location over the weekend of June 19-20 2010 As part of this event, the children from the school will be creating a WW2 garden in the school grounds complete with an Anderson shelter. Further details of this event can be found by visiting the website www.maidennewtonatwar.co.uk The school has been provided with part of an Anderson shelter which was discovered in a garden in Poole. This will be used and dug into the schools grounds to form part of the weekend re-enactments in which the children will be involved – as evacuees to Maiden Newton.

• MOJO will be performing live at the Fox and Hounds on Thursday, December 31 from 6pm until late.

The last night that Mojo were in Cattistock, the roof came off the pub! There will be great music and lots of dancing. There will also be a buffet available, for which donations to St George’s Hospital are requested.
