Doctor's Orders

THE NEXT Melbury Men’s Breakfast meeting will take place on Saturday, January 16, when the guest speaker will be Dr Jeremy Gibson.

Dr Gibson is a GP from Honiton and he will talk about ‘The Golden Days of General Practice’. He is not offering any private consultations, but will give some of the inside stories of the Health Service and explain how faith makes a difference.

Although the Melbury Men’s Breakfasts are always well attended, there is room for more members, so do contact Paul Wilcock on 01300 321112 (or by email on p.wilcock@virgin.net) if you would like to come along.

The breakfast takes place at the Southern Counties Shooting Club on the A37, starting at 8.30am and finishing at about 9.45am. The cost is £6 for the breakfast and a levy of £1 towards speakers’ fees etc. There is always a vegetarian option for those who require it.

Following the meeting, there will be an opportunity to have a go at clay pigeon shooting for those who are interested. You will need to indicate your wish to take part when you’re booking your breakfast place. If you have your own gun, please bring it along.

  • FRIENDS of St Mary’s in Maiden Newton are holding a jumble sale at 2pm on Saturday, January 16 in the village hall.

Please come along to find yourself some bargains and support a good cause at the same time.

  • THE NEXT Poetry Evening will be held on Tuesday, January 20 at Annie and Gordies.

Do give them a call on 01300 320240 for more details of this very popular event.

  • THE FRIENDS of St Osmund’s Church invite you to follow ‘In the Footsteps of the Maharajahs’, an illustrated talk by Helen and Peter Preston.

This will take place in Melbury Osmund Village Hall on Thursday, January 14 at 7pm for 7.30pm.

There will be a bar and raffle and your ticket (cost £7) includes a curry supper.

On the menu this time will be Cottage Pie and Mushy Peas, followed by ice cream. There will be an alternative for vegetarians and, of course, Rodger’s Bar!

The whole exciting evening starts at 7pm, so make sure you keep the date free.

  • THE NEXT Chime Oil Group Syndicate (COGS) orders must be placed on Friday, January 15.

Please ring your order through to Richard and Sally-Jane on 01297 444347 (Please note the new number).

If you wish to email your order prior to this date, please use the email address cogs2009@hotmail.co.uk, remembering to include full name, address with post code and phone numbers (mobile and landline if possible) or email address at which you can be reached on Monday, January 18.

Oil delivery will be during the following fortnight.

Oil ordered in November (55,000 litres in total) was priced at 34.30p per litre + VAT.

Remember, oil cannot be delivered in less than 500 litres quantity to any household (Customs and Excise Law) and it is really important that you are aware of your tank size and are sure it can accommodate the amount you order (at least 500 litres).

Failure to comply with this could result in a heavy fine and probably expulsion from the syndicate.
