Cattistock & Maiden Newton

Coffee and Cakes!


  • THERE will be a coffee morning at The Forge, Cattistock at 10.30am on Saturday, February 20.

Stalls will include cakes, produce and bring and buy. Everyone is welcome.

Proceeds will go to the Cattistock Church Fabric Fund.

  • IF YOU are still feeling a bit peckish, why not go along to Rampisham Village Hall for a Hot Lunch afterwards?

This takes place from 12 noon until 2pm on Saturday, February 20.

  • LENT Lunches in Cattistock start on Wednesday, February 24 at the Old School Yard. The other two will be on Wednesday, March 10 (The Forge) and on Wednesday, March 24 (Fullers Earth).

Each lunch is from 12 noon until 1.30pm and consists of soup and rolls. These are relaxed and enjoyable occasions and everyone is welcome, particularly those who may not have attended in the past.

Donations will be in aid of the Medical Centre at Ezo in Sudan, which is supported by the Salisbury Diocese.

  • THE MELBURY Team Mothers’ Union has its next meeting at Halstock House at 2.30pm on Wednesday, February 24.

Everyone is welcome.

  • THE NEXT Chime Oil Group Syndicate (COGS) orders must be placed on Friday, February 26.

You will then receive information regarding the name and contact details of the company selected, along will delivery details.

Oil delivery will normally be during the following fortnight.

Remember, oil cannot be delivered in less than 500 litres quantity to any household (Customs and Excise Law) and it is really important that you are aware of your tank size and are sure it can accommodate the amount you order (at least 500 litres).

  • THE CATTISTOCK Community Space Committee has been fundraising in recent years to provide new equipment for the children’s playground. Members of the committee are delighted to report that they now have sufficient funds to purchase a substantial amount of equipment and this will be installed shortly.

The fundraising continues in order to purchase additional items. Events include a gig in the Savill Hall by Local Band on Saturday, February 27 to celebrate the installation of the new equipment.

There will be food and a bar. Tickets cost £4 in advance and are available from Cattistock Shop, the Fox and Hounds, Maiden Newton Stores or from Sophie Sennett. Otherwise the cost will be £5 on the door.

Doors open at 8pm. There will be music and dancing until midnight.

There is also a charity edition of the Suttons catalogue available, from which 25p from every £1 spent is donated to the CCSC.

  • FOSSA (Friends of Sticklands School Association) is proud to present a Ship of Fools Gig on Saturday, February 27 in Evershot Village Hall.

Described as one of the biggest folk band in the south-west, this Somerset 10 piece play an eclectic upbeat disco/folk mix.

Doors open 6.30pm. There will be a bar during the evening. Tickets cost £6.00 on the door, but entry is free to children. Tickets will be available to buy in advance from Sticklands School and from Evershot Village Shop.

All proceeds from the gig will go to Friends of Sticklands School.

  • REALLY early advance warning! Stratton & District Home & Garden Club has announced the photographic classes for their next annual show in August 2010 so that prospective photography entrants can go out snapping right away to be ready with their entries.

Categories include the following: A weather scene, a single rose, a scene with water, an amusing photo with a caption, a sporting scene, people at work. You could also enter the open class (you shoot, we see it).
