Pancake Day


STRATTON and Bradford Peverell WI is holding a pancake coffee morning on Tuesday, February 16 from 10.30am until 12.30pm.

Entrance costs £1 to include a freshly cooked pancake plus tea or coffee.

This is always a very popular event which includes home baking and produce, bric-a-brac, books and toys stalls and a clothes rail.

The proceeds will be shared with the group’s nominated charity, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

The group’s next meeting is on Thursday, February 18, when the very popular Christine Shaw will be reliving her recent trip to Japan.

  • FRIENDS of St Mary’s Church, Stratton, are holding their AGM in the church at 8pm on Thursday, February 25. Refreshments will be served prior to the meeting.

Anyone is welcome to attend and hear more about the Friends, their fundraising activities and how funds are spent on the church. New committee members are always welcome.

  • ST MARY’S Wives Group has its next meeting on Thursday, February 25, when a speaker from the St John Ambulance will be covering the topic of Resuscitation, something that could be very important to any of us at any time.

Visitors are most welcome to come along to Bradford Peverell Village Hall at 7.30pm to hear this talk.

  • CATTISTOCK Hunt Supporters’ Club welcomes you to an auction of promises and supper on Friday, February 26 at Frampton Village Hall.

The evening begins at 7pm.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children of 16 years and under.

  • ANY YOUNG people living in the Stratton area and between the ages of 11 and 17 are invited to come along and give Stratton Youth Club a go.

There is a wide range of activities, including PS3, Xbox, Wii, pool and table tennis. In addition there are other activities that change weekly – from bouncy castle to bungee running!

The club meets in the village hall every Wednesday between 7 and 9pm. Entry is just £1 and there are always plenty of sweets and drinks on offer.

  • Maiden Newton Art Group will be welcoming Ray Gray on Wednesday, March 3.

He will be dealing with the general principals of art in the morning and give help and advice on members’ work during the afternoon.

  • FRIENDS of St Mary’s (Maiden Newton) will be holding their next village breakfast on Saturday, March 6 between 9 and 11am in the village hall.
  • MAIDEN Newton and Cattistock Football Club is holding a Race Night in the Savill Hall on Saturday, March 6.

Admission is by ticket and these are available at £3 each.

This should be a fun evening, which will include sponsor a winning horse and win, sponsor a jockey and win, dual and trio forecasts. There will be Tote betting, eight races plus an auction race.

Proceeds will go to club projects.

  • FROME Valley History Society’s next meeting will be on Monday, March 8, when the speaker will be Liz Merry. Liz will be talking about ‘Dorset’s Literary Heritage’.

  • MELBURY Osmund Garden and Show Society will feature a Spring Talk by Phillip Gamble on Tuesday, March 9 and their March Spring Show on Tuesday, March 16 .
  • LENT Lunches in Cattistock continue with lunch at The Forge on Wednesday, March 10.

Please come along from 12 noon to enjoy soup and a roll in a relaxed atmosphere.

Donations will be in aid of the Medical Centre at Ezo in Sudan, which is supported by the Salisbury Diocese.
