A good night's sleep for children of Fiji

WHILE life goes on in Dorset, we are actually back in Fiji and busy checking up on our charity projects.

Our latest visit was to the island of Vanua Levu, where we attended the official opening of our third sanitation project, this time at Waibunabuna Primary School.

The journey to the island involved several hours on a bumpy road, a 4-hour sea crossing and a further 4 hours on rough tracks. After a few hours’ sleep, it was back on rough tracks for about 3 hours to reach the school.

The strenuous journey was well worth it. The whole school (staff, governors, children and parents) had turned out to join in the feasting and celebrating.

Apart from cutting the ribbon to officially open the toilet block, we visited the dormitories, where Children of Fiji had provided 25 pairs of bunk beds and mattresses for the children, who previously were forced to sleep on the floor.
