STRATTON Parish Council will hold an open meeting at 7.30pm on Tuesday, September 13 to introduce new councillors and to discuss proposals for village celebrations to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on the weekend of June 2-5, 2012.

Please come and submit your suggestions as to how you would like the event to be celebrated, and how it could be funded.

If you are unable to attend, but would like an idea to be considered, please submit your proposal to the Parish Clerk in writing or by email before the meeting. THE SEPTEMBER Stratton Lunch Club meeting takes place at 12.30pm on Wednesday, September 14.

The meeting will feature gardening questions.

FROME Vauchurch’s Harvest Supper will be held this year in the Barn at Frome Vauchurch Farm by kind permission of Mrs Crocker and Mrs Blazeby.

The event takes place on Saturday, September 24 with gates opening at 6.30pm and a drink on arrival. Supper (a ploughman’s meal, a dessert and a glass of wine) will be served at 7pm.

Tickets cost £7 each. Places are limited and you are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.

Half of the money raised will be donated to Famine Relief in East Africa.

WALK WEST Dorset is the name given to the campaign by teams from Through Faith Missions to walk through West Dorset carrying the Christian message.

They will be attending a number of events in our area, some of which are outlined below.

MELBURY Osmond Church with Melbury Bubb Church would like to invite you to a Cheese and Wine Happy Hour in Melbury Osmond Village Hall at 6.30pm on Tuesday, September 20, when you will have a chance to ask members of the Walk West Dorset team about their mission.

ST MARY’S Wives Group will have a talk from members of the Walk West Dorset team at their meeting on Thursday, September 22.

THE NEXT Impact Ladies’ Lunch will be held at Maiden Newton Village Hall at 12.30 on Thursday, September 22.

The cost is £5 to include lunch and this time the theme will be all about the Walk West Dorset Mission.

ON SATURDAY, September 24 you will have a chance to meet members of the Through Faith Missions at a barbecue to be held at Horchester in Frome St Quintin at 12.30pm and also at the 11am service at St Mary’s the following morning.

THERE will be an evening of Sacred and Secular Music (Songs from the Shows and Sacred Choral Music) by Geoffrey and Friends at St Mary’s Church, Frampton, on Friday, September 23.

The evening starts at 7.30pm and will support the Walk West Dorset mission.

Everyone is warmly invited and very welcome to attend.

MELBURY Men’s Breakfasts take place between 8.30am and about 9.45am at the Southern Counties (Clay Pigeon) on the A37.

The cost of breakfast is £7. There is a vegetarian option for those who require it.

MMB is well attended, but there is always room for new members.

THE FRIENDS of St Mary’s and The Thomas Hardye School are to present an evening of exciting and eclectic music at St Mary’s Church in Stratton.

The concert takes place at 7.30pm on Thursday, September 22.

MAIDEN Newton Youth Football Club needs more players!

Season 2011/2012 will see Maiden Newton Youth Football Club enter an Under 7’s team into the Dorset County Mini-Soccer League. However, more players are required.

If you are currently in Year 1 and are interested in playing football in a fun, friendly club, then the organizers would like to hear from you. The team can be mixed, so both girls and boys will be welcome.

All coaches are FA certified and have been CRB checked.

Training is held on Saturday mornings from 10 to 11am at Maiden Newton Youth and Community Centre.

Please ensure that your child attends with suitable footwear (football boots or trainers), shin pads and a water bottle.
