CATTISTOCK Church is the venue for a concert by the Beaminster Gallery Quire on Saturday, October 1.

Raise the Song of Harvest Home is a concert of traditional village music appropriate for harvest-time with anthems and carols from two centuries ago, together with readings anecdotes and a few surprises.

The concert begins at 7.30pm and tickets cost just £7. This includes cider and sausage rolls in the interval.

Tickets can be obtained from Cattistock Village Stores, the Fox and Hounds, Maiden Newton Stores and Maiden Newton Newsagents.

Any queries can be answered on 01300 321010.

The concert is just part of the Harvest Festival Weekend at Cattistock Church on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2.

To add to the festivities of the weekend, people are being asked to make a scarecrow to decorate the churchyard. It doesn’t have to be a traditional scarecrow – just let your imagination run wild!

It is hoped that as many people as possible (not just children) will be inspired to join in and help to line the pathways to the church from Friday onwards.

A small prize will be awarded to the one that receives the popular vote.

HARVEST will also be celebrated in Evershot with a Harvest Supper in the village hall on Friday, October 7.

Musical entertainment will be provided by the rector and his ‘side-kick’!

THE NEXT meeting of the Stratton and District Home and Garden Club will be held on Thursday, October 6 and will feature a talk by Mr T Putman on The last of the Narrow Boat Families.

STRATTON Village Hall is the venue for a General Knowledge Quiz on Saturday, October 8, starting at 7.30pm.

Come along and test your grey cells in friendly, but competitive surroundings. You can come as a team of 4 to 6 people, or turn up and link with others.

The cost is just £3 per person. Space is limited so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.

You can contact Andy on 01305 260054.

There is a limited bar available during the evening. Proceeds will go towards Village Hall funds.
