CERNE ABBAS THEATRE Club: The next coffee morning will be at the Royal Oak on Monday, January 9 at 10:30am for 10:45am.

Newcomers are always welcome, the forthcoming outings include a visit to the Swan Theatre to see “In Praise of Love” by Terence Rattigan on Tuesday, January 24 and to Salisbury Playhouse to enjoy “Design for Living” by Noel Coward on Thursday, February 16.

Posters in the village will also give full details of the events.

SOCIETY for Horticulture: The next meeting will be the society’s AGM and social evening on Tuesday, January 17.

It takes place at 7:30pm in the Village Hall.

Anyone interested in joining is also very welcome.

You can also take advantage of ordering coppice products on this occasion which the society purchases from local coppice Terry Heard at an advantageous price.

The annual subscription for the society remains £ 6.

CERNE VALLEY SUPERFAST broadband: Are you interested in receiving superfast broadband?

If so please register your interest with the Parish Clerk Mrs Andrea Schafer.

Dorset County Council are currently working on funding and encouraging providers to become involved in a bid.

Thus the level of support for superfast broadband needs to be established and that’s where you come in!

WEST Dorset District Councillor Alistair Chisholm will be holding drop-in sessions this month in Cerne Abbas.

These sessions are an opportunity to meet him and raise any concerns.

He will be available on Monday, January 16, firstly at The Royal Oak from 11am – noon, later on at The Giant Inn from 8pm – 9pm.

Charlton Down THREE Valleys Wildlife Group: This relatively new group meets at Herrison Hall, Charlton Down on the third Tuesday evening of every month.

If you are interested in wildlife, why not give them your support?

The next meeting takes place on Tuesday, January 17 at 7:30pm.

John Newbould of the Dorset Environmental Records Centre will talk on “Biodiversity recording at Sutton Poyntz and for the National Trust”.

BUCKLAND NEWTON BUTTERFLY conservation: Three Conservation Action Days are planned for January, for completion’s sake I also mention the not-so-local one: Broadcroft Butterfly Reserve on Portland will be the venue of the first two.

The first one takes place on Sunday, January 15, a joint venture with the Dorset Countryside Volunteers, the second one on Wednesday, January 18, this time with the BTCV.

The third Conservation Action Day will see all volunteers at Alners Gorse on Thursday, January 26.

Woodland and scrub management will be continued to improve habitats for the butterflies and Nightingales.

GAGGLE of Geese: Mark and Emily are wishing everyone a very Happy New Year and would like to announce some exciting new events for the next few months!

A NEW Pilates class has just started in the village.

This is a master class teaching the basic principles at foundation level on Thursday mornings.

One-to-one tuition is also possible as is shared tuition with a friend.
