BUCKLAND NEWTON MUDDY Petticoat Shop: The Old Chapel Stores would like to let everyone know that as from the beginning of this year Nicola will be sourcing all the clothes, accessories and gifts herself.

The Muddy Petticoat Shop will thus no longer be run as a dress agency, resulting in more of the brands you favour and faster rotating stock!

The second bit of great news is that The Old Chapel Stores are now baking their very own bread!

Different varieties of dough have been tried and tested and only the best remained – so start enjoying fresh bread, croissants and baguettes from early morning and then again later in the afternoon.

Fresh bread will even be available on Sundays!

A BIG “Thank You” to all who helped to organise and who supported the Sunset Cafe Stompers concert in the village in November last year.

Due to everyone’s generosity, three charities were able to benefit from the proceeds.

Buckland Newton Youth Club, newly formed, the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and the village Church each received £ 526.00.

Thanks again to all for this brilliant result.

PLANT Sale: The village plant sale has been a feature of the village for the last 25 years.

Volunteers for this year’s event which takes place on Saturday, April 28 are always welcome.

In addition, an overall co-ordinator is now needed in order to ensure that this event runs smoothly.

But don’t worry – you will be supported by an experienced team of helpers!

If you feel this might be you call Richard or Sue on 01300 345586.

WATERCOLOUR painting – have you always wanted to try it or perhaps refresh your knowledge?

A new class has started up in the village, headed by West Dorset artist Lynda Connolly.

It takes place on Wednesday afternoons and will allow you to learn about watercolour techniques for landscape, seascape and still-life.

If you are interested in joining call Lynda on 01305 871178.

CERNE ABBAS HISTORICAL SOCIETY: This year’s AGM takes place on Thursday, January 26 at 7:30pm in the Village Hall.

Wine and soft drinks will be provided, accompanied by an exhibition of some fascinating Cerne diaries.

Furthermore, there will be progress reports on a number of interesting projects currently underway.

One of the most eagerly awaited ones is a geophysical examination of the site of the old Abbey.

This will be spearheaded by Bournemouth University and is possible by kind permission of Henry Digby.

New members are also welcome to attend the AGM, everyone is reminded that membership subscriptions are now due.

At £ 7.50 per year, membership is excellent value and the society is looking forward to some top-class speakers this year on some very diverse subjects.
