CERNE ABBAS LENT course: This year’s course follows the Archbishop’s Lent book: “Love Unknown” by Ruth Burrows OCD.

The course will be held weekly over a course of five weeks, starting on Wednesday, February 29 in St. Mary’s Church.

The cost of the book is £ 7, if you are interested in joining the lent course, please contact Fiona Hyden on 01300 341563 by Wednesday, February 15.

A lot of the books are spoken for so do register your interest as soon as possible for the opportunity to take part in the resulting lively discussions!

The first meeting starts at 7:15pm.

LENT lunches: These will be held in St. Mary’s Church on Friday, March 2, Friday, March 16 and Friday, March 30, starting at 12:30pm.

Everyone is welcome to come along for a lunch of soup and cheese – why not use the opportunity to meet up with friends?

VILLAGE Hall: Plans are underfoot to double the size of the Meeting room, with specifications having gone to tender.

If you have made a booking or are interested in doing so, availability can now be viewed as far ahead as possible.

Please note that the AGM for the Village Hall takes place on Wednesday, February 15 in the Meeting Room at 7:30pm.

It will include the election of four village representatives to the committee.

GIANT Social: This social occasion to which all patients of Cerne Abbas Surgery are invited next takes place on Friday, February 10.

John Yonwin from Fit as a Fiddle will be guest and guide everyone through some gentle, chair-based exercises to keep everyone fit and healthy!

Why not bring a friend along?

Remember also that repeat prescriptions can be issued on this occasion – just let Cerne Abbas Surgery know two days beforehand.

Football Club: Thanks go to everyone who turned up to the Boxing Day football match!

The actual number of players was on the low side but the match was enjoyed by all.

If you are interested in an informal kick around on a Sunday morning, get in touch with coach Andy on 01300 341804 or just turn up around 11am.

Who knows you might feel a lot better afterwards and keep it up!

GIANT Inn: An auction in aid of Help for Heroes and the British Legion Poppy Appeal will be held at the Giant Inn on Sunday, February 19.

Do come along as those auctions, organised by the Football Club, are not only interesting and profitable but also good fun!

If you have any unwanted items you wish to contribute, please take them to the Giant Inn the week before.

BUCKLAND NEWTON LENT lunches: Two lent lunches will be held this year, all villagers and residents from around are very welcome to attend.

No charge is being made, donations are welcome.

The first lunch is being held on Saturday, March 3 at Dominey’s between noon – 2pm.

Any donations will go to the village church and Combat Stress.

The second lent lunch will take place on Saturday, March 31 in the Village Hall.

You will be able to enjoy delicious home made soup and good company.

CERNE VALLEY AN ADVERTISING manager is needed for The Newsletter.

Covering Buckland Newton, Cerne Abbas, Godmanstone and Minterne Magna as its benefice magazine, this is a volunteer yet important role and now urgently needed.

Your main responsibilities will be the renewing of advertising contracts and dealing with general advertising and small ads enquiries.
