CERNE ABBAS VILLAGE Fete: Please note that this year’s fete will take place on Saturday, July 7 and be sure to mark it in your diaries!

The opening will be extra-special this year as it is performed with a flourish by The Nothe Fort Artillery Volunteers!

They will attend in their splendid uniforms and fire their cannon to open the fete at 1:30pm.

Many stalls and games will delight you, the visitor, starting off with a Hog Roast straight after opening.

The Grand Draw will be held at 3:45pm.

OPEN Gardens: Please mark Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17 in your diary as that is when the Open Gardens event takes place in the village!

Over 20 gardens will be open to delight you and your friends and do take advantage of the plant stalls and the delicious cream teas on offer in the Vicarage!

The entry is £ 5 per day for all gardens, the proceeds will go to Julia’s House Children’s Hospice and the Cerne Historical Society special projects funds.

A close-up and macro photography workshop for SLR camera users is being held on Saturday, June 16.

REVEREND Pene Kennedy is soon to be ordained priest.

This happy occasion will take place on Saturday, June 30 at 11am, at Salisbury Cathedral.

Plans are afoot to organise a minibus for those who wish to attend.

In connection with this there will be a lunch in St. Mary’s Church on Sunday, July 1, following the 11am service.

HORTICULTURAL Society: The next outing is an all-day affair to the RHS garden at Rosemoor near Barnstable in Devon.

This takes place on Tuesday, June 12 and is an eagerly expected outing since the standard of maintenance of those gardens is exceptionally high, they also benefit from a beautiful setting.

If you would like to come but are not a member why not join the society?

It will also give you the opportunity to find out more about the Annual Show on Saturday, August 11.

FIRST School: The Giant Human Torch, performed on the Giant on Monday, May 28 was a huge success.

It was even attended by the Lynx helicopter, courtesy of RNAS Yeovilton and the school wishes to thank everyone who made this amazing experience possible.

By the time you read this, the school will also have gone to the Bath and West Show to collect the Dorset County Environment Award.

They are hoping to collect the Regional Finalist Award as well as the County Award – best of luck!!

A new headteacher – Mr David Vann –was appointed and everyone says Goodbye and Good Luck to Miss Phillips and wishes her well in her new teaching position.

BUCKLAND NEWTON FAMILY Praise is a short, informal service, focusing on stories, songs and activities.

The next Family Praise will take place on Sunday, June 17 in the Holy Rood Church at 9:30am.
