BUCKLAND NEWTON REVELS Fishery is warmly inviting everyone to come to their Charity Car Boot and Local Market Day on Saturday, October 20.

The day, which represents a follow-up to Revels Fishery’s 25th year, starts at 9:30am and is being run alongside a special angling event to be attended by anglers from all over Dorset.

Do mark this day in your diary – it is also a celebration of local businesses who will be displaying their craft and products.

HARVEST Festival: This year’s festival takes place on Sunday, October 21 at 9:30am.

Any donations of tinned or packed goods are most gratefully accepted and can be put in a basket in the church or brought along on the day.

They will be divided between The Hub in Dorchester and Hilfield Friary.

The remainder of gifts and produce will be auctioned at the village Harvest Supper on Saturday, October 27.

LYDDEN Vale Gardening Club: The next talk deals with the subject of “Greenhouse Gardening” and will be held at Buckland Newton Village Hall.

Don’t miss this talk if you would like to learn from Mike Burks of Castle Gardens how to improve “the fruits” of your greenhouse!

Newcomers are always welcome, the talk takes place on Wednesday, October 31 at 7:30pm.

WAYFARERS: The next meeting tackles the question “Do we support the death of the High Street” and takes place in The Parish Room on Tuesday, October 30.

It lasts from 8pm – 9:30pm and everyone is very welcome to attend.

LYDDEN Ladies: This group just enjoyed a most interesting talk by Margaret Bax, giving valuable insights into her work as a teacher in Dorchester prison.

DOMINEY’S Garden and Arboretum are opening their doors once again on Sunday, October 21.

You will be able to admire the lovely autumn colours of trees and shrubs as well as late flowers from noon until 4pm.

Soup will be available at lunchtime, followed by afternoon teas.

There will be plants for sale of course and children of 12 years and under go in free of charge.

CERNE ABBAS HISTORICAL Society: The next talk will take place on Thursday, October 27 at 7:30pm in the Village Hall.

The speaker will be Dr Jon Murden who will be speaking about Dorchester Museum, its past, present and future.

Having been Director of the Dorset County Museum since 2008 he is very well placed to divulge its fascinating history as well as future development plans.

Non-members who would like to enjoy this talk are welcome against payment of a small fee at the door.

HORITCULTURAL Society: The next meeting is to be on Tuesday, October 16 at the Village Hall.

It commences at 7:30pm and will be headed by speaker Bryan Edwards.

Bryan Edwards is a specialist in mosses and liverworts from the Dorset Environmental Records Centre and will speak about “Dorset Woodlands”.

Next month’s talk will be held by artist Sally Pinhey.

It takes place on Tuesday, November 13, again at 7:30pm.

Sally Pinhey is one of Britain’s foremost botanical artists and has passed on her knowledge through many teaching posts which include Kingston Maurward College.

She also holds tutored art holidays.

Non-members are very welcome to attend against a small fee of £ 2 at the door.

GODMANSTONE A HALLOWEEN Quiz Night is taking place on Saturday, October 27 in the Village Hall.

Everyone is welcome to attend for a 7:30pm start.

A bar and soft drinks will be available.
