LAST Sunday nearly forty locals gathered at Chapelhay Community Playgarden for the group's monthly workday.

With twenty lavender and other shrubs donated by Helen of Helen's Famous Wholefoods, a crabapple donated by local gardener Lexi and lots of tomato, chilli and vegetable plants grown by the group, there was lots of work to do.

Chair of the Playgarden Clare Sutton said: "It was great to have so many people turn up and help. We hope that the better care we take of the Playgarden the more local people will want to use and take care of it, and it is looking great at the moment."

Rosa, aged 7, added: "It's fun to come and play with your friends and maybe grow some plants too. We made loads of chips out of our potatoes last year."

The group gets together at the Playgarden on the first Sunday of the month, 11.30am-12.30pm, to do odd jobs and grow vegetables with the children - the Let's Grow! Project.

ON Sunday, July 4 the group will be holding its summer event, The Big Picnic 11.30am-1.30pm.

There will be lots of fun activities, and hopefully a bouncy castle, for all the family.
