• ON Saturday, July 12th we went along to St Mary's Church fete held in the garden of The Elms on East Street.

It was a lovely afternoon and the weather was kind with the rain holding off until the evening.

Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves on the variety of games and stalls they had laid on. The cake stall was very popular and we won a variety of prizes on the tombola and the hula hoop stall!

The cup of coffee and piece of chocolate cake that we had sat under the tree was particularly nice too!

The cake competition for the children proved popular and they had obviously gone to a lot of effort in making them.

  • THE PACT (Partnerships and Communities Together) group held its latest meeting at Chickerell Primary School on Wednesday, July 16th.

The main areas of concern were, again, speeding along Glennie Way and anti-social behaviour.

These will be looked into by the appropriate authorities.

We have a small amount of anti social behaviour in Chickerell compared to other areas of the country but it is still there.

It is vitally important that if you see something which you think is a problem, however small or seemingly insignificant; you must report it to the police by telephoning the 222222 number.

If everyone who sees something phones that number the police can get a better view of what is happening in Chickerell.

  • THE stolen weather vane from St Mary's Church has been found, a little worse for wear, in the grounds of the Congregational Evangelical Church.

It is soon to be back in its proper place although the church is planning to leave it in its current bent condition as a reminder of what has happened.

The damage to the church roof, which was done at the same time, has now been repaired at a cost of just under £250.

  • THE Chickerell Methodist Church is holding a coffee morning on Saturday, July 26th.

It will start at 10am and finish at 12.

There will be the usual home made cakes, bric-a-brac and of course a raffle.

All friends, old and new, are welcome to attend.

  • ON Sunday, July 27th St Mary's Church will be saying a sad farewell to the Reverend Vicky Thurtell.

She is leaving Chickerell to be Vicar at St Peter's Church in Dorchester, with responsibility to the Dorchester Team for work with schools and young people.

She will be missed by everyone and we wish her good luck.

  • THE ever popular tea dances continue at the Willowbed Hall on the first Friday of each month.

You don't have to be a professional fox trotter to attend; non dancers are made very welcome. They are held in aid of Age Concern and the entrance fee is just £2!

There are refreshments and a raffle. So dig out your dancing shoes and go along.
